Learning to see experiences and situations from the perspective of others is essential to living with peace and purpose.
Whether you are a part of a team at work or even a volunteer organization and in your personal life, being unable to see the perspective of others can cause so much frustration and pain.
I talk with people every week and observe situations every week where people cannot see a situation from someone else’s perspective, or what’s going on in the world, or experiences from a different perspective other than their own.
And this can cause issues for people. We’ve all been there at some time or another. I know I have. But it can really wreak havoc in your life especially if you are a part of a team.
It can cause tension and conflict between you and your co-workers. It can cause frustration for your managers or leaders. And it can cause issues in your personal relationships as well.
Believe me. I’ve been there. I’ve been that person who could not see situations and life and the world froma. different perspective.
There are lots of reasons for this and what I have found personally and in my studies and connections with other coaches is that this one skill is vital. It is essential if you are going to grow in your personal life and as a leader.
Now, I was there 9 or 10 years ago. I thought my perspective was the right one and should be the only one. And I could not understand why other people could not see things from my perspective.
While lots of people are that way, I can tell you from my personal experience and from what I see and observe in other people is when you refuse to see others’ perspectives you don’t have peace.
I did not have peace. And I certainly wasn’t focused on my purpose. I wasn’t living present in the moment. I was too focused on what was wrong with other people and their perspectives.
That’s why I love the Enneagram. It helps us understand why we have that perspective and it gives us a path for understanding other perspectives and getting out of that place where we can’t understand other people’s perspectives.
Understanding WHY we do what we do, understanding why others do what they do, our own core fears and core motivations helps us see different perspectives and that is the start of peace within ourselves.
If you are in that place and you cannot see other perspectives and you are living with constant frustration or resentment or anger at the world or other people because they have the wrong perspective in your mind and you want to find a way to live with more peace, I would love to help you.
In coaching I can help you understand what your core motivations are. I can guide you and help you discover those and that can lead to a lot more peace for yourself and understanding different perspectives.
In the end it just makes for better relationships and better work environments.
